quickie.

I just read a fairly short novel my brother had in his possession.  It was entitled schooled (it was intended for a middle school audience I guess, but I believe literature is for everyone).  It was about a kid from a “hippy” subculture, and the kid had to move to a very suburban area.  It really reminded me of my middle school days and how much we shunned people that were different, the whole book really was fascinating to me from the way the author wrote, to the way people acted in the book, but the way the author wrote was what intrigued me to an other worldly extent.  The author wrote the different chapters from different perspective, so one chapter would follow the protagonist, and another would follow his rival.

Overall it was a great read.  I read it in a day.

‘Scuse me but WTF is going on in your head Chris Crutcher!

Chris baby, love your book, love the language, but your a middle aged man, how do you come up with some of this stuff?

Chapter five was one hell of a chapter.  It really made me think about how there really are people out there, who really do have problems like that, and it disturbs me.  I was awestruck reading about this little black girl having this tantrum to top all tantrums.  I think that based on this the rest of the book will be something that will be on my to do list.

Hendrix again

One word to describe Hendrix family would be… dysfunctional.  His mom drank his dad drank, he couldn’t stay in one place as an infant for more than 3 months.  He couldn’t even stay with his own family.  He would end up every once and a while with some one his family hardly even knew.  I wonder what it would be like if this happened in today’s society, that child would probably be killed, ditched, raped, or any number of horrible things.  It even could have happened to Jimi, and if it had I wonder what music would be like today, or even just the world as we know it.

A new book.

Whale talk was a book that was assigned to my English class to read.  It is quite stimulating for my brain cells.  I enjoy how the book operates in terms of how it is written, I mean, it’s written like any other first person, but it really speaks to me like others have failed to do.  I look forward to reading about the adventures of “The Tao Jones”.

Neglect=Regret.

I neglected to keep up with my blog and now I regret it…

So now I am starting a long, long, long session of blogging to make up for lost time.

Anyway in Jimi Hendrix biography things start going very fast and slow down.  It’s a mix of things why it does that, one he is just a baby therefore has little going on, and also, everyone likes a book that rips that yanks your attention quickly.  Although it did stay on his birth for quite a while, it went into detail about how his family operated before birth, as opposed to just following Jimi and only Jimi.  This contributes to how you take your opinions on where things went wrong and and how it shaped his life.

Post 4

Hooray!  My book has finally started only now with who I expected it to start with.  After I got past the prologue relapse I talked about in post 3, the book went on to talk about his parents honeymoon, and how african americans were having an influence in 1912.  This is deffinately foreshadowing what is to come because of Hendrix obvious promotion of his race.  I believe this because I have slight knowledge of Hendrix life already.

Scuse’ me while I write post 3

When I began the first chapter I was annoyed at what I was reading.  The beginning of the first chapter was repeating the prologue, which I can understand but it still makes me annoyed.  Although there was one positive thing that came out of the beginning and that was the style David (the author) wrote in.  He wrote omniceintly, and it was very appealing to me.

‘Scuse me while I blog about this guy

So as I began reading my biography, I was initially annoyed at how it began, and then began to love the thought of it. The prologue of the book started with his death, but not just his death (as seen in many books), it was the controversy behind his death. When I finished reading the prologue the thought arose to me of how GENIUS of an idea this was. It gets the reader thinking about whats happened and gives you an opportunity two look at the book from two completely different standpoints, or none at all (some keep an open mind, A.K.A me). I was so pleased at how the book started, and I can’t wait to get to the end to really measure up what my ideas were and what they will be then.

‘Scuse me, but WTF Duncan?

Blah Blah… English class… Blah Blah… assignment… Blah… Blah… book…Thus my story (well not TECHNICALLY my story, but my story reading a story) began. Last week I chose a second biography for my school English class (first being SLASH, a fascinatingly good read) named ‘Scuse Me While I Kiss the Sky, the biography of Jimi Hendrix. I started this book because of how much in love (perhaps too much?) I am with his music. So now i start the book bearing EXTREMELY high hopes.
